Vote 2024: A Highschooler's Guide - Amendment 79, Access to Abortion

Updated: Nov 8

Update: Passed

 61.8% YES

Amendment 79 proposes making abortion a constitutional right in Colorado, this meaning repealing the existing constitutional ban on state and local government funding for abortion services. The vote on Amendment 79 has the potential to reshape Colorado's healthcare. Each vote carries significant implications on public funding in Colorado and abortion rights.

Yes: a yes vote supports making abortion a constitutional right in Colorado. It would ensure individuals would have legal access to abortion services. Prohibiting interference from state and local governments. The current ban on using state and local funds would be lifted, ensuring less potential for discrimination. A yes would support public funding for these services.

No: a no vote would maintain the current legal framework. Keeping the ban the government would still be able to block the use of state and local tax money on abortion services. State legislature- Colorado lawmakers would continue to decide whether abortion is legal or not. No change in the state's constitution. A no the government would have more control over both the funding and law on abortion.
