Yesterday, December 5th, Poudre high school boys wrestling had a fantastic season opener against Loveland high school boys wrestling with an astonishing 57-20 point win for Poudre. Poudre's varsity wrestlers had many pins but some of the more notable ones includes the match of Brett Lamb. Brett Lamb pinned his Loveland opponent shortly after the above photo was taken.

Another notable wrestling match was the opening match of Carson Barrett against his Loveland opponent. Carson was able to secure his first varsity win. Carson is only a sophomore but is a very dominant wrestler at his weight class. "We are hoping to see great things from Carson this year," said other members of the wrestling team.

Up next is a coaching spotlight. coach Barrett Golyer is the head coach for the

Poudre wrestling program. for many students he has made an impact not only on the mat but also in the classroom and daily life. I interviewed members of the wrestling team and they had this to say about coach Golyer,"He's a great wrestling coach" Taylor Simpson said, "he has positively affected my mindset on and off the mat." another member of the wrestling team, Garett Sims said "coach Golyer has impacted my life on and off the mat by being a role model and teaching me how to balance sports and academics," "also he has taught me to how to be someone people can rely on." some of coach Golyer's peers said he's not only a great coach to be around but he's also a great person to be around, "he always has such a positive attitude." is what many teachers told me.

Are you interested in getting involved with the Impalas Wrestling Team? The main way you can support the wrestling team as a member of the public is to go to the matches and support the team. students on the other hand have opportunities to be managers for the team. students can also join the wrestling team if they are interested. All experience levels are welcome but the coaches recommend at least 1 year of experience or basic understanding and abilities of the sport. Poudre school district also has a girls wrestling program if any are interested.

This is Cesar Mejia, a sophomore and first year member of the Poudre Press. He is currently involved in press and doing sports officiating. Things he likes to do in his free time include: taking pictures of sports, playing video games, watching collegiate football, and cooking. This year he hopes to be able to cover a wide range of topics, not just sports, to help keep members of the community and school involved in things going on in the world, community, and sports.
