Introduction

Illuminea Is a Science Fiction book by Amie Kauffman. It is told with a combination of logs, text messages and internal dialogue in the form of poems. It is a mix of a space opera, romance, mystery, and zombifying virus.

The Setting

The Setting is on a Spaceship with a potentially dangerous AI. With some the novel’s chapters taking place online.

The Characters

Kady Grant is our hero, though she might be quite, she will find the truth behind the infection aboard the ship.

Ezra Mason is Kady’s former boyfriend, and her contact with other ships.

AIden is the ship’s Arrogant AI who is originally blamed for the inciting incident. He always says “AM I NOT MERCIFUL?”

Plot

The year is 2575, Kady Grant recently broke up with her boyfriend. She thought that could be the worst thing that happened. Until an attack on her planet happened. With her being trapped on a spaceship with an AI who was blamed for the attack, along with a virus that infects the ship’s crew leaving Kady to survive.  Through an investigative hacking of the history on the ship she discover the truth, but can she survive?

My conclusion is that Illuminea might be a little hard to get a good grasp on the story due to it being complicated, but the story is good and it really immerses you into the world. The characters are well written, with AIden being my favorite character. My overall impression is a 5/5.
