159 Alpine Robotics

The Alpine robotics team is based in the Poudre High School robotics team, which competes at the highest level of robotics, which is called FRC. Each year we are given a new goal and we have to design a robot to compete and complete the goal assigned to us.

This year we were given this challenge:


We will compete at two competitions this year. One in Denver and one in Minneapolis. We have 10 weeks to design, build, and program a robot to do the challenge that is assigned to us.

Designing the robot is no small task we have a team of people that work with SolidWorks to design the entire robot online. Once they have designed the robot online they make part drawings for the shop team to make into parts and once the parts are made we assemble the robot parts and all the electronics. After that, we hand the robot over to the programing team and they program the robot so it drives and completes the necessary things. Finally, the business team helps make money for the robotics team to build robots continually each year.


This will be a hard season because the shop is being renovated at Poudre High School and that is our home base; so, we have to dodge some different obstacles to build a robot this season.

Daniel Jacobsen

Columnist ​Daniel Jacobsen is a junior at Poudre High School in his first year working with the Poudre Press. He is involved in robotics, trap and skeet, and is taking a few AP classes and many other year-long classes in his free time at the school.
